POST MATCH CONFERENCE

The post-match conference after Saturday's game saw mixed reactions about the team, which scored first, only to lose 1-4 eventually.

Held at Saffron International Prata House, here's a summary of what the skipper, and 5 others, had to say.

Asked about breaking his goal duct, Hafriz was all smiles saying, "I spoke to Izman before the game, and told him I was aiming for three. Still, one is good enough."

Izman was in the limelight himself, earning his name a place in the referee's book with a lunging tackle on the opposite left winger.

"I felt good about the tackle. I don't know if I got the ball, but I felt it was a strong and fair challenge."

Television replays showed Izman clearly winning the ball first, before generously winning the opponents legs as well.

Izman's elder brother, senior player Izzat, was cool about the game.

"The team played okay. Apart from two to three of their better players, I felt that we could actually match them men to men. It was generally defensive lapse that cost us a victory, or at least a draw."

Regarding the team's performance, skipper Wee Yang said, "It was not the best of games."

Echoing the same view, Firdaus added, "What is pretty obvious now is, the team needs regular training in order to have any chance of better luck."

When probed about his decision to leave the field midway through the second half, Wee Yang replied, "I just felt I needed a break at that point of time. My morale was on a low, and I felt it was best for the team if Siu Sing had stood between the posts instead."

Amin eventually replaced him in goal.

"I don't find much joy now," Wee Yang added, his words depicting a demoralised man.

Munjen needs to rally behind their skipper for now, and they need a better result soon.

KENT RIDGE HALL SOCCER BONANZA

Munjens sent a team earlier today to compete in the Kent Ridge Soccer Bonanza held at 9am West Batam time at Kallang Cage.

Expectations were high, as fans and media alike were looking to see if MPFC could repeat their Pierre Ratnam Cup victory.

There was a surprise though, as team striker Edmund Ong was seen appearing from the team bus. Needless to say, fans have clearly missed star forward, having missed the previous 25973436 Munjen matches.

MPFC was drawn into Group D, arguably the Group of Depth.

First up was KR XI, a team Munjen knew they needed nothing less than a victory to kickstart their quest. That wasn't the case however, as butterflies in their stomaches saw them having very few chances as the game ended in a stalemate.

Next in Munjens way were group favourites, Team White (cause they were wearing white lar..), featuring familiar faces from MJC and VS soccer. They lived up to their name, comfortably winning 2-0, although Munjens did have a few good chances through Edmund and Addison.

As Munjens waited for their last match, news crept in that the results in the other games had favoured them, and they now need js a single goal victory over their final opponents, TEAM ITEWEST, to qualify.

The game started lively as Munjens dominated possession, and throwing everything they had at the ITEWEST. The goal eventually came through Fir, whose shot crept into the bottom left corner of the goal.

That lead did not last too long though, as the opponents grabbed a controversial goal. A snap shot from one of their players rebounded off the right post, onto the left post, and then back into play. Moments later, the referee controversially stopped play as he adjudged the effort to be a goal.

The match went into half-time at 1-1. Munjens continued to dominate and took shots after shots but failed to score. Edmund had the best chance perhaps, thundering his shot above the bar with the goalkeeper left scrawling on the ground as he went for power over placement.

1-1 the final score, handing an abrupt end to the Munjens.

Controversy

When asked after the match regarding the controversial goal rewarded, the ref pointed out that it was given after consulting the linesman.

It was understood that the linesman was all they way behind the goalpost, and not in line with the byline as he should have been -.=

In what was meant to be only the second encounter against this free-flowing football side, Munjen Portuguese received a pre-match scare when brothers Rio Izzat and Anton Izman alerted the gaffer of their unavailability mere hours before kick-off.

In the end, Munjens took to the field with a 9-men line-up, still with spriits high, nevertheless.

Starting Line-up: Haris (GK) Fahmi (RB) Siusing (CB) Wenxiong (CB) John (LB) Jiewei (CM) Azhar (CM) Hafriz (CM) Fir (FW)

Munjens got the match underway, and they made up for their lack in numbers with excuisite passing moves, effortlessly keeping the ball.

Hafriz was first to have an attempt on goal, but was unfortunate to miscontrol the ball in the box.

As Munjens pushed up the field, their lack in numbers showed in defence. The opponents took advantage of this, and against the run of play, got the opener with only a quarter of the first half played.

Munjens soon got their equaliser following their relentless efforts. From an attack down the left wing, Hafriz earned the team a corner. Fir whipped in an inswinger with pace, and Azhar met it with a thunderous header into goal.

Azhar then got a chance to double his tally, but his free-kick went agonisingly inches above the crossbar.

Nexus looked to regain their lead now, with Ivan and Chi constantly running riot around Fahmi and Siusing down the left. And at times when they finally managed to go past the defence, Haris was equal to their efforts.

Munjens continued to dominate play with their passing game. Siusing found Hafriz this time with a ball through the middle, but Hafriz's shot was well blocked.

With minutes to half time, a throw-in from Fir found Jiewei down the left flank, who jinxed past two defenders and placed a shot into the bottom left hand corner.

Against all odds, Munjens went into the half-time leading 2-1.

Nexus started the second half brightly, with Munjens obviously exhausted having had to cover extra grounds.

Minutes on, Chi had an excellent opportunity from a one-on-one with Haris, but the Munjen keeper did well to collect the ball from his feet.

Chi again had an opportunity later, but his attempt to lob Haris went wide instead.

Binlong came as close as it could get soon after, his shot came crashing back from the crossbar.

Minutes later, a short corner played in from the left found Joshua, whose pin shot seemed destine for goal, only to be disappointed as Haris tipped it over the bar.

Over at the other end, Azhar's through pass found Jiewei, whose solo effort beat 3 defenders, but their keeper did enough to see the ball go off over the line.

Hafriz then had a couple of volleys from just outside the box, but both went over the crossbar.

Nexus regained possession of the ball, and this time, an attack down the middle saw a snap shot from Ivan well saved from Haris. It seemed that everything Nexus looked to throw at Haris, he was simply equal to them.

The defence quartet marshaled by Siusing and Wenxiong looked to hold on as they pressed Nexus trying to run down the clock.

In the end, it was their star winger Ivan who clinched the equaliser with a stunning strike which swerved beyond Haris' outstretched arms.

2-2 the final score, and perhaps a deserving end for both teams.

MPFV vs KOSMOS Match Preview

With the season over and the friendlies kicked in, this will not be one to miss.

Haris' recent loan move to KOSMOS has sparked off rumours on his availability for the match which could see him start off against his own club.

After a string of bad results for both sides prior to the run-in of the end of last season, both teams would be wanting to put their best feet forward and get off to roaring start.

When MunjenTV asked KOSMOS skipper Ali Haikal on Haris' appearance, he only said that we will just have to wait for the starting line-up on Saturday afternoon.

MPFC on the other hand would like to keep their fitness level up after being laid on rest for quite a period of time and tune their performance for the 4th July match at Serangoon Stadium which would hopefully see the return of their star forward Lucien from his overseas stint with Melbourne Galactico, amid fears that he might contract the H1N1 flu virus.

Til then, let's gear ourselves up and support MPFC tomorrow at Bedok View Arena. Tickets are F.O.C on a while-stock-lasts basis which can be purchased on match day at the South Wing Entrance. Match will kick off at 1500h local time.

HARIS SIGNS FOR KOSMOS

Just as the season was brought to a close and the summer windows slams wide open, Munjen striker and goalie has signed a 2-year loan contract with resurrected KOSMOS FC.

Haris who put pen to paper this afternoon has expressed his delight at signing for the position of goalkeeper at KOSMOS.

"It is great honour to be back at the club where i started before moving on to Munjen Portugal. I guess I can now finally put my goalie skills to the test in the mini summer league starting next month.

"I will however stress that so far I am only on loan to KOSMOS. This however, does not mean that I will not be putting in my best effort whenever they play. I will still be playing for MPFC when called upon so I hope to work out something between the two clubs before the start of next season."

Haris who made his debut for KOSMOS in a 1-0 loss to BTC FC last week impressed the coaching staff and board when he was brought upon in the second half to replace make-shift custodian Lux Chia.

He is reported to make his first full match appearance tomorrow at the Tampines Safra Stadium in a friendly at 7am.

Entrance is free of charge.

im sorry to inform you that the Vs co-ed saga has started, AGAIN. i know it sucks to be hearing about it all the time without any resolution. so, we need to come out in full force one last time!

please rally all your other classmates and friends to visit the OVA website asap. we need to stand up and be counted to preserve our school's tradition and legacy.

i know deep down we all love Vs and care for it's well being, so let's stop this saga once and for all.

AMIN TO BE GIVEN THE START?

Boosted by his commanding display in the back four in Munjen's last game, many would have expected Amin to keep his place in defence. But the unavailability of Wee Yang due to national commitment and the sudden missing disappearance of Haris has led to the gaffer having no choice but to hand Amin the pair of gloves for tomorrow's game.

Captain Wee Yang is fully behind the manager in this decision, saying that there is no more deserving pair of hands to replace him in goal besides Amin.

Having had a disastrous outing as a goalkeeper previously for the Munjens, in which he let it 4 goals in 45 minutes at the Changkat Changi Stadiumm, fans were quick to label him 'calamity Amin'.

Let's just say tomorrow's game would be Amin's to prove his critics wrong.

IMPORTS SHINE FOR MUNJEN'S HAULING

Munjen Portugal made a shocking addition to their starting line-up with three of their first foreign loans from Japan. One was loaned from Albirex Niigata while the other two from Singapore Japanese Football Club (SJFC).

Two new additions for the Munjens were Alif on the right wing and Randy flanking the left.

It didn't take long for Munjens to open their scoring when one of their imports struck a poorly cleared ball right on the underside of the crossbar and into the back of the net.

With SJFC barely having any time to recover from the early lead, Haris struck on the far side of a Firdaus cross to end his goal drought and bring the score up to 2-0.

With Munjen dominating the half from kick-off, it was no surprise when Munjen added two more with the likes of Guang and Randy.

SJFC however manage to pull one back just before half time to end the first half at 4-1.

Second half saw Kenny and Hithayatullah introduced to bolster the left side of the field. Although it was a relatively slow start, it turned out to be an entertaining half.

SJFC was clearly more rejuvenated than the Munjens and it paid off with a low curling shot that was beyond Wee Yang's reach.

Sensing that they could somehow claw back into the game, SJFC pushed on and almost added a third if not for Wee Yang's heroics, one tipping a header just over the bar and the other turning a far post shot round the upright.

Munjen then stepped up a gear and pushed forward with more purpose and found their fifth through Alif after fending off several SJFC players down the right and slotting the ball coolly past the keeper and into the far post.

A sixth was inevitable as Munjens continue to press the game in the depleted defence of SJFC as Mr Albirex caught the goalie off his line and stung an unstoppable 45 yard strike over the helpless goalkeeper.

As Munjens looked to add the tally, Wee Yang decided to step out of the comfort of his goal and unto the opposing side. He somehow managed a header but as the ball was quickly cleared away by SJFC, the lone striker waiting in the middle of the park had all the time in the world to walk the ball into the empty net.

Munjen fans must be scratching their head thinking their skipper might have lost his marbles.

Five minutes later, Munjen had a corner and were awarded a fantastic own goal any striker would have been proud off with the ball skimming off a defender's head in the near post and the ball bouncing off the far post and into the net.

With the score in Munjens favour - something they have not tasted for a very long time - they surged forward in search of more goals.

A quickly taken free kick by Mr Albirex found Guang flashing down the right flank, cutting in to the penalty area and squaring the ball at the far post which found Haris lurking and smashing home his second of the night.

With the clock ticking down, Guang and Haris made another perfect pairing effort as their perfectly executed run beat the offside trap leaving Guang to square the ball for the unmarked Haris in the centre before taking his time to slot the ball for his hat-trick, tributing it to someone special he lost the day earlier. Despite his goal drought, he certainly has not lost his predatory instincts.

Commented skipper Wee Yang, "Everyone played very very well today. The team can gel very well and we are looking forward for the next match. Kudos to Amin whom I think must be applauded for being the most improved player so far. I hope he can better himself in defence the next time around."

With a field that is as solid as it can get, weather as cooling as ever and imports as good as gold, who could have asked for a better win?

MUNJENS MAKE UNORTHODOX TRAINING

With the market on the slump and January transfer window nearing, Munjen Portugal Head Coach has came up with an unorthodox move to buffer themselves in the case that they may not get any signings for the winter.

All Munjen players now regardless of position will have to be trained to accustom themselves to several roles in the case of shortage and tactical changes for the rest of the season.

As of now, the only clear indications of such move are that of striker Haris and goalkeeper Wee Yang.

Haris was loaned out for a game to Syabab Lions earlier last week for a goalie stint whereas Wee Yang was recently put in midfield for a mid-week friendly and scored himself a goal.

Said the head-coach,"This move was made with a hindsight in mind. We cannot afford to be buying and selling players at each transfer window as we already have a small squad and the economy is not looking good for us.

"Therefore, this step was implemented to up the players' skill level and flexibility to be moved around as an when time calls for it. Other than that, they will stick to their original positions. This would not only make them all the more important to the club but should they make a move, they would be more of value to the next team that signs them for their services."

HARIS DISMISS SYABAB MOVE

In a surprising fan news that has been circulating within the past 24 hours, Munjen striker Haris was rumoured to be walking out on Munjen for rival Syabab Lions for the position of goalkeeper.

Haris who was put on emergency loan to Syabab Lions early yesterday morning after Munjen's afternoon kick-off was postponed due to problems regarding the venue of the match which will not be disclosed for security reasons.

Haris who starred in Syabab's 4-1 win over Tampines Rolling-Sub FC, was rumoured to may have had a conversation with the club's board over a possible switch to the Blue Lions after he gave in a superb display which could grant him an easy starting 11 as compared to Syabab's current keeper which can be very suspecting.

"Yes i was happy that my match went well and I am grateful to be given the chance to play as a goalie. But i must say that i did not hold any kind of transfer talks whatsoever with the club board. They were just happy I did a good service for them."

Match Report [Week 1]

FC Munjen Portuguese VS FC Angkatan Polisi

The FA has decided to pit the Munjens against Angkatan Polisi for this season's opener. And what a match it promised to be, as much expectation was heaped on the Munjens after the way they ended last season.

Munjens went to the game without team striker Haris, flown to Indonesia for a short stint with Sriwijaya FC. Apart from that, the gaffer had a full team at her disposal.

Minutes before the game, team skipper Wee Yang and defenders Izzat and Amin had yet to report to the team. News crept into the dressing room that Wee Yang was showing off his modellic body in a nearby swimming pool to the chickies whereas Amin got lost in his private cab. No news however, was heard of Izzat.

Starting line-up: Brian (GK) Addison (LB) Wenxiong (CB) Thiru (CB) Siusing (RB) Kenneth (LB) Firdaus (CM) Peter (CM) Sanjay (CM) Lucien (ST) Adrian (ST)

Munjens started strongly and attacked from the start. They continued to keep possession with their short passing game. Their pre-season closed door training had apparently worked for them.

Lucien was first to test the opposition goalkeeper, his shot narrowly shaving the upright. And the likes of Adrian, Sanjay, Peter and Firdaus soon joined in the foray of attack, with Adrian missing a couple of good chances.

In the end, it was Kenneth who broke the dead lock. The ball fell to him from a clearance, and sensing the goalie off his line, sent a glorious chip over the keeper. 1-0 to the Munjens!

Lucien added Munjens' second soon after, a well-worked goal following an estimated seven threaded passes.

The opposition, far from dejected, started to attack. And from their first real attack, hit a shot that went right under the crossbar, leaving Brian stranded.

By that time, Wee Yang and Amin had arrived, and the skipper was automatically installed as goalkeeper.

Munjens continued to attack, and continued to miss a host of chances. 2-1 to the Munjens at half time.

The second half started with Munjens playing as brilliantly as the first. But their short-passing game faded soon after as fatigue caught up with the players. It was a good thing though, that Izzat had popped up from nowhere - his was a much-needed presence.

Munjens then conceded a goal, and with the score tied at 2-2, it was anybody's game.

Munjens pressed for a winner, and even Siusing ventured into attack, sprinting the ball half the length of the field, before trying a delicate chip that landed into the side netting instead.

In the end, it was Lucien who stepped up. His individual play got Munjens' third, his second, and the final for the game.

Final score, 3-2 to Munjens.

Wee Yang apologetic

Skipper Wee Yang said after the match, "It was a good win for the guys. Finally we've got some belief in our football."

"I'd also like to make a public apology to the team, and to our fans, for my late-coming earlier today. I believe it was my first of my entire career. I had no choice though, I was lazing around in the public pool nearby topless, and the chickies were cramming around me, all wanting a piece of me. I needed time to politely ask each and everyone of them off.."

Short passes the way to go

Man-of-the-match Lucien was upbeat after the game, "It's nice to know how it feels to win once again. I really think we just have to keep on playing the way we did in the first-half - that should bring us victories after victories."

Right-winger Firdaus agreed, "We played some nice football today, in the first half especially. But I believe we could have done better if we really had our established centre mid out there today. We've been missing players like Darius and Jiewei for some time now, and I can just hope they'd be back sooner than later."

"I'm happy for Lucien with his brace. Both well-taken goals. But I'm also looking forward to having the old goal-scoring form of Adrian back. I don't think any true Munjen fan could have forgotten that he once scored in every single game for us."

MUNJEN PORTUGESE CLOSE-DOOR TRAINING LEAKED

MPFC players woke up to an awkward surprise earlier today when their IT&Resource team alerted them that a video of their pre-season training held behind closed doors had been leaked online.

In an official statement, a spokesman of the club said, "The video clearly showed the players in a kick-about during the last stage of their training held at Safra on October 23rd. The training session was held behind closed-doors, with all supporters or press alike banned specifically to allow the players to fully focus in their training. Up to this very moment, we have yet to find out the source of this video."

SIU SING FRUSTRATED OVER FAN'S COMMENT

Munjen right-back Siu Sing was reported to have been angered by a fan's comment calling for the gaffer's head.

In an unprecedented move, Siu Sing let his frustrations known to the press as he made his way for the team's morning training.

"Who the hell is that fan who called for the manager's head?! He shouldn't be supporting us in the first place! We do not need fans who don't understand the current situation we are in now. We need those who'll have our backs regardless if we're winning or losing!"

A check with RESPECT representative, Firdaus, after the training session, he said that, "It was clear that Sing was unhappy over what has loomed over us. It gave the club a lil shake up but let me reassure everyone that we're stable.

"We've gone through a rough patch but I'm certain that with patience and with everyone's support, we will be able to achieve what we've always dreamed of."

Despite this, speculation was rife over the possibility of an understudy to be brought in and take over the manager's hot seat in time. A few names have been linked to the position but none have been made official.

Martin Mort, Munjen's club chairman spoke to the press, "We at Munjen are very disappointed that all these speculation and rumours had to surface just before the season starts. Nothing that has been around is true nor concrete. We just want to concentrate on bringing this club to the next level. That is all."

MUNJEN DUO AT ORCHARD TO PROMOTE RESPECT

Munjen winger Firdaus and striker Haris were recently in town to promote the new initiative by the FA calling for Respect to the Referees.

In a short half hour public conference session, both players stressed the importance of showing respect not only for match officials but also the opposition.

In a written statement read out by Firdaus on behalf of Munjen Portugal FC, the first club outside the FA to follow suit on the initiative, read;

"R-E-S-P-E-C-T. A seven-letter word that has all but gone out the window in recent times. Football now is no more about enjoying one's game and leaving the pitch in good harmony with new-formed acquaintances.

"As a result, we often see on pitch quarrels breaking out between players and match officials. Before the situation escalate, Munjen Portugal would like to reiterate that we do not condone ill-mannered behaviour on or off the pitch.

"Therefore, we will constantly keep our heads in check and show respect not only for match officials but also our opponents, the football community and most importantly, the fans who traveled with their teams and paid good money to watch good football."

This was followed by a short video presentation to mark the end of the conference titled "Respect to Referees" starring familiar football faces like Les Ferdinand, Howard Webb and Fabio Capello.

MUNJENS DISSAPOINTING RUN CONTINUES

It was a bright start by both sides that saw them level at 2-2 after only 20 minutes of play with Munjen equalising on both occasions. Sadly, errors cost them dearly as they sank out 6-2 at the final whistle.

Without skipper Wee Yang in goal, Amin was put in standby amidst doubts amongst fans. However, it turned out to be disastrous with him not looking very confident and which saw him conceding five goals.

Haris then came on as a substitute for Amin and with what started off as a great save from a free kick after just coming on, Haris was caught off guard awhile later which saw him letting in a simple goal after being caught off the line.

Lucien was later put in goal and capped himself a clean sheet.

The match seemed to have taken a toll on the Munjen players as most were too distraught to answer the press after the match.

As such, it left the manager with no choice but to answer the queries in the post match conference;

"Today, we played pretty okay despite the loss. However, we are in grave danger if I stand by what I have planned out today. Therefore after the match, I have actually decided to loan Amin out to Capalang FC to get more exposure as there are many other stand-in keepers in here namely Lucien, Haris, Seng, Nallu and Peter.

"We were at a big disadvantage today due to the size of the pitch. The style of play that we had just could not accommodate our fast paced players and the strength of their shots. We tried to tone it down and play quick passing instead but there wasn't much room for us to run.

"It is sad that Muru couldn't make his debut due to personal issues that we have left him to settle with. Thinesh had a relatively good game and his partnership with Azhar was commendable. Haris did quite okay especially after a long break.

SUMMER TRIALS UNVEILED

A surprise news conference was held earlier today amidst speculation that Munjen Portugal could end their transfer window without a signing.

As was stated by the board regarding their hush-hush approach, club chairman Martin Mort has now unveiled two of the most talented upcoming stars that they have snatched over the summer.

The man they nickname "The Fortress" has arrived in Munjen. Thinesh completed his move from Commandos FC late yesterday evening after passing a medical. The move was made to strengthen the defence which has been Munjen's Achilles heel.

"Thinesh and Azhar would make a very good backline. Both are commanding and they seem to understand each other better after the trials. They are able to cover for each other as and when needed," club chairman Mort was quoted.

Another up and coming versatile midfielder unveiled was Muru. Both were brought in from CFC for an undisclosed fee.

Asked how he felt joining a club like Munjen, he said, "It is of great pleasure to be here. The fans are great and the players have quality. I'm relatively new here so I will need time to get to know my team mates.

"However, I will still need to continue to work hard and fight for my place in the team. It's healthy competition."

Manager Jac has said that both players will most likely make their official debut against Fir's Fren FC (FFFC) tomorrow at Changkat Changi Stadium.

FANS UPSET OVER TRANSFER WINDOW

Munjen fans have recently been airing their frustrations on the club's forum pages on the seemingly quiet transfer window.

One fan who goes by the nickname "MPForever" was blatantly hitting at the boardroom saying that "the club management is not doing anything but saving money to finance their own salaries" and "...where is the excitement that other clubs possess? Aren't we just as big as they are?"

When MPOM contacted the board regarding the issues raised, they defended by saying that: "We will only buy the right players, at the right price. The fans have to understand that players are assets and it is an investment. We do not want to buy a Ronaldinho at $60m and cannot adapt to the style of play to one who can at only a fraction of the price."

Team skipper Wee Yang gave his view that although Munjen has a small squad, they are a talented one but however, at some point or another, they will need to get players in to bolster those being stretched off for injuries.

The quiet transfer window seems to continue with Munjen not having made any inquisitions on any players and though it seems to be a dull summer transfer, we suppose the manager knows what's best for the current team.

HARIS SEEKS PROTECTION

The return of Speedy "Haris" Gonzalez should have been a long awaited one for him and his fans. But the striker, who turns 20 today, has seeked police protection from a stalking fan he suspected to be gay.

"Being able to play again is freedom for me but now it seems i have to watch my step. I've been receiving text messages, photo comments and online mails all from the same person and they seemed a lil suggestive.

"I gave his profile a look and yes, it clearly suggested to me that he is gay. Therefore I have reported the matter to the law and shall leave it in their hands for further actions."

Haris who seems certain to start this Sunday will join a three-pronged attack with Adrian and Lucien, which has been in absence since the end of last season when all of their strikers suffered respective injuries.

This last pre-season match will be looked forward by everyone especially manager Jac who would want to bolster the team's attacking form and partnership before the new season kicks off.

MUNJENS VOW TO BETTER NEXT FRIENDLY

Munjen Portugal has vowed to perform much better in their next pre-season friendly this coming Sunday. The way in which they lost a 2-0 lead last Saturday has caused doubts on the ability of the team's play and promise to pull their socks this season.

In a startling twist of story, rumour has been on the grounds that Haris could play a part this Sunday. The manager has taken a look at Haris' 5-a-side charity game last Monday and found him to be a-okay for the coming match.

"I wouldn't want to say anything yet but he might or might not play a part this Sunday depending on his match fitness. He seemed okay but it does not guarantee him a place in the next friendly."

Critics however pointed out the manager's desperation in getting back players in the already striker-depleted team.

And it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the gaffer will be trying his best to get some match experience for Haris before the season starts.

Show Me The Players!

With Euro blues finally well behind us following Spain's thrilling victory over the Germans, the spot light has once again shifted to the Summer Transfer season. With clubs like Chelsea and Real Madrid making audacious multi million pound bids for their targets, MPFC fans have been clamouring for the team to make new signings after a season where the team's lack of depth was exposed near the end of the season when they were plagued by injuries. The misfortune tainted a promising season in which the team expected themselves to finally break into the Big 4 and establish themselves as one of the powerhouses in world football.

" The poor finish to what began as a title worthy start was certainly a heartbreak for us as fans. We hope the board would make funds available to strengthen the team that already has strong foundations. So far, the deathly quiet transfer scene at the club is worrying us and presenting us with the possibility of another season without silverware", a view aired by MPFC fan Mars Cerlarmart.

When contacted, the MPFC board of directors were quick to reassure MPFC online that they were already in talks with team manager, Jacinth regarding the expansion of the team. A senior board member who spoke on the basis of anonymity later told us that the club was already engaged in advanced talks with certain transfer targets.

"The talks are kept under the veil so as to prevent them from being poached by other club scouts. We're confident of landing our targets, and believe that these players would introduce competition of places in this team and bring them to greater heights."

When faced with this question, team player Addison Bain only had this for us.

"Even if the board decides to stick with the current squad, we have no qualms about that. As a team, we believe that we can only get stronger and that is what we'll always strive to do. With a handful of players returning back from long term injuries, I believe they would be just as good as new signings for the club. Right now, what's important is that we continue to train hard and work towards the 09/10 season and make it a title winning one".

CLASSY CHRISSY RESUMES NORMAL TRAINING

Munujen's winger who came through the ranks from the youth academy was seen up and about in training with the first team today.

Chris, who has had a nagging shin problem since pulling on the senior shirt, has finally upped his training from light training he underwent for the past two months.

Despite this, the team physio insisted that Chris will still be under close supervision until the medical officer assigned to him has cleared him of any doubts.

When Munjen Weekly managed to have a chat with him after training today, Chis was more than ready to give his views.

"I'm very very pleased to the backroom and medical staff for their support in my recuperation program. I certainly feel much fitter now but I still have some way to go if I were to be ready for the new season.

"I hope that the rest still in the medical room could clear their problems soon enough for the new season. Everyone in the team is of utmost importance for the overall team morale and performace."

SPEEDY GONZALES RESUMES LIGHT TRAINING

After a month of recuperation, Munjen striker, Haris is finally back on the pitch earlier today for light training.

Munjen's head physio has given Haris the green light two days back after he passed a thorough medical examination by the team's medical staff. "It is great to see whim recover well so fast as we had predicted that he'll be out till at least another two months! He seems fine but he will need to undergo constant examinations and also keep a close eye on."

Under-fire manager, Jac commented that it was a relief that Haris has returned to the grounds with light-training under close supervision. Should Haris make it through the pre-season trainings and be match fit by the start of the season, it would be a real boost for the troubled manager.

A less than desirable string of results last season has made a call for the manager's head but the news has been rubbished by the board of directors claiming they are dully behind the gaffer.

Munjen Magazine managed to catch-up with Haris after training and this was what he had to say :

"It feels great to finally get to kick the ball again. The feeling was as if I've been liberalised. It's great to see the fans who acknowledged my return and I wanna thank everyone, from my team mates, the gaffer, the backroom staff and of course the fans who have never failed to wish me well and get back on my feet again.

"I just hope that I am able to get back to match fitness soon 'cause i wouldn't wanna miss the start of the new season. It has been a terrible one for us last season and we're out to make it right this time around. However, I wouldn't risk my health for the season as i feel that a playing team with 100% fitness is better than having one that has a player who isn't match fit at all."

Firdaus, the team winger also commented that the return of Haris has lifted the atmosphere in the dressing room as they have been left without a striker towards the end of last season, all missing through injuries.

Other players who have been missing in the attacking force of the team are also expected to be back within a month or two. Chris, who came from the youth system has recently got back to match fitness while Aaron and Hafriz will spend a little more time in the medical room.

The player whose hole in the lung created shock waves amongst Munjen fans has been discharged from Singapore General Hospital. In a statement released at 14 33h earlier today, his agent Baizurah informed that Haris is now under close home medical supervision.

Aaron Ng (LB)

The club's versatile player is down with a knee ligament inflammation after a freak accident in training yesterday. Aaron was doing some light jogging when his knee suddenly collapsed under him. He is expected to be out for two months.

HARIS' SURGERY A SUCCESS

Speaking to MW in a phone interview late yesterday, Haris' agent Baizurah confirms that the surgery on our team's hitman has been a success. Following the operation on his left lung yesterday, the player is now in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Singapore General Hospital (SHG).

BUDGET 2008

MPFC's Chief Financial Officer Fir yesterday released the club's financial spendings for the last season, showing an alarming loss in returns.

The club has plunged into a debt of 343,495.10 IDR to a privately owned company.

When probed, the CFO declined to reveal more about the company, citing it as 'commercially sensitive'.

As a result, the CFO added that the club has now no choice but to postpone its plan of getting a team bus for the club.

According to him, a plan has now been laid out and measures are being taken step by step to curb this financial problem.

All matches arranged must now be of a maximum SGD50 per game. Matches arranged has to go through the club's Financial Department for approval.

Match organiser has to personally book a field and arrange for a referee to make this possible.

The CFO forsees that the club will break even by this upcoming September, and reassures fans that the club shall then focus on rebuilding its stadium and training facilities, apart from the plan of getting a team bus.

HARIS TO UNDERGO SURGERY

Doctors from the CGH has revealed that it was necessary for Haris to undergo a surgery.

After much consultation with team doctors, they have also agreed that surgery would be best for Haris.

Obviously worried, Haris said, "I was told that with this surgery, there would be a 90% chance that the problem will never reoccur. But without the surgery, there is a 50% chance I will be having this problem again."

It is understood that Haris would be transferred to the Singapore General Hospital to undergo this surgery scheduled tomorrow, May 31st.

MW also noticed a hamper from the Commissioner of Police on Haris' hospital bed. Apparently, the SPF has also been informed of his surgery.

HARIS RUSHED TO HOSPITAL

MW was alerted early this morning at approximately 0600h with the news that team hitman Haris was rushed to the hospital after complaining of severe chest pain.

Haris, who has a history of a hole in his left lung, was rushed to Changi General Hospital, where he was to be warded as observation was still ongoing.

First to visit him were team members Fir, Izzat and Von. Clearly shocked, their faces showed much anxiety on the way to the hospital, but it soon turned to smiles as they were greeted with pretty nurses.

At press time, MW was told that Haris had been diagnosed with Busta Lunge, which meant that he has a hole in his heart. MPFC wishes Haris a speedy recovery.

MUNJENS EXTEND CONDOLENCES

The match that was supposed to be help today at Beatty Stadium was called off due to reasons of grievances.

Star winger Firdaus suffered the loss of his grandmother early this morning.

The board has decided to mourn the loss by wearing a black armband in their next match.

In a short telephone interview with Firdaus, "Yes I'm saddened by the loss by I guess this is God's fate and He loves her more than we do. All i can do is pray for the best in her after life and dedicate my next game to her."

Munjens take a trip down to central heartland of Toa Payoh for their next clash this Saturday, the birthplace of their inspirational winger, Firdaus.

After last week's dreadful defeat, Munjens have been working all week to improve their form, and particularly in defence.

"The back four hasn't been a solid line lately particularly due to different players standing in for injuries and absentees. We have no choice. But it is no excuse. Whatever the problem is now, we will rectify it," said Munjen's gaffer during training earlier today.

HARIS DOUBTFUL FOR NEXT WEEK'S CLASH

Munjen's hit man has picked up a nasty knock to the knee following a friendly clash between his civil service colleague during a fund raising event yesterday.

"I was going for a mid air ball when my colleague's stud brushed against my right knee. Though it was a mild brush, the contact nearly had me on the operating table. I've just gone for the scan and we'll have to wait and see what the doc has to say."

Haris who has missed the last match due to national duty, is eager to put his best foot forward for tomorrow's afternoon clash but it has but all dissipated.

"I just hope that it's just a normal knock and bruise kinda thing so that i can pick things up and get back for next week's action.

Heavy downpour sees match cancelled again

Dark clouds looming above the Damai Sec ground earlier this afternoon sent chills within the Munjen team bus as they were making their way into the Damai Stadium.

As they waited in anxiety, the sky finally opened up, and the Munjens knew their game was as good as over.

"I waited a fucking whole week for today," lamented Sanjay, the squad's up and rising winger. "I did practically nothing the whole week, just looking forward to Saturday, to finally leave home with a goal in mind."

Letting his feelins known, a devasted Firdaus told MW, "I was so upbeat about this match - we have got a good team here, ready to fight on. It's just so disheartening."

Left winger Terence was equally disappointed, but was quick to realise that there's another game next week to focus on.

STROLL IN THE PARK FOR MUNJENS
It was a make or break match for Munjens who was on the back of a two match losing streak. It didn't take long for MPFC to satmp their authority over Terence Friend FC.

However, the final score of 6-0 was just an illusion as had it not been for the missed chances they had, the score would have been easily doubled.

Both sets of teams received a warm applause as the match kicked off on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

It was only in the fifth minute when Munjens had a clear chance on goal when Haris was sent a ball down the middle only to scuffle a shot towards the goalkeeper. Haris squandered another good chance on the left when his left legged shot was easily saved by the goalkeeper.

The match became more frustrating for the forwards as they found themselves wrongfully caught offside several times before finally making a breakthrough in the 37th minute.

A counter attack saw TFFC caught by surprise as they found themselves a man short in defence as a through pass by Adrian to Lucien tore the defence apart before he cooly slotted the ball past the helpless keeper. 1-0 to MPFC.

Munjens should have been up by another goal when a beautifully swung in cross by Siu Sing on the right met the unmarked Haris on the far post only for his header to graze the upright.

Half time score, 1-0 to MPFC.

Tactical changes were seen by MPFC during half time as Terence started out on the right and Firdaus on the left. Totally the opposite of their usual positions. However, this change proved to be vital in the second demolition of TFFC.

It was barely 20 seconds into the second half when a double effort by Haris in the centre proved that he was having an unlucky day today. He first smashed the ball straight into the goalkeeper and when the ball was in favour of being tapped into the empty net, he ballooned the ball sky high for a goal kick.

New trial debutant, Muru, quickly made his presence felt as he ran rampage giving the opposition feel like school kids.

In the 51st minute, Muru single handedly took on his oppsitions before slotting a nice through ball down centre to Lucien who had no trouble in smashing the ball into the net for the second goal. Surely he must have worn his scoring boots today.

It was pretty obvious by now that from the restart, the ball had barely crossed over to Munjen's side of the pitch, yet alone Wee Yang touched the ball.

The game grew more one sided with Munjens charging down both flanks with Terence and Firdaus constantly cutting in and causing trouble for TFFC defence.

As TFFC found it harder to climb back into the game, they were even broken when the third goal cam in.

A mazy run by Firdaus down the left and cutting in into the penalty box left a trail of defenders behind him. As he crossed the ball low into the six yard box for Adrian, defenders were able to clamp down on him fast but he managed to set up the ball to Haris who smashed the ball into the roof of the net with his outsole.

3-0 and sure no turning back.

With already two goals to his name, Lucien set himself up for a shot down low on the left from 25 yards only to see it going just wide.

His third finally came when Adrian's failed shot saw him regain posession and with a simple through pass to Lucien who was waiting in front of goal, the ball was easily converted for him to take the match ball home.

The introduction of Amin for Aaron in the 74th minute brought many an eye-raiser.

With critics on his back, he silenced them with a first touch of clearance that brought a huge sigh of relief to the Munjen fans.

In the 81st minute, a foul on Terence on the right saw Firdaus stepping up for the free kick which was swung in with inch perfect precision and also, an inch-perfect own goal by the TFFC defender who seemed in a daze.

As of now, left back Kenneth has stepped further upfield in search for more goals.

The sixth and final goal came from no other than Lucien who was firing hot today.

Another nice through ball by Adrian after receiving it from Darius in defence, saw Lucien lose the ball. However, a failed clearance by TFFC which hit Luucien's butt saw the ball trickle towards goal and Lucien made no mistake in tie-poking the ball into the back of the net.

The game ultimately paced down with TFFC never did terrorise MPFC's defence except for a solitary shot off target that ballooned over the goal with only Wee Yang to beat.

The final whistle came with a rupturous applause from MPFC's fans who might be wondering, will this be the turning point for MPFC?

A PUSH A LITTLE TOO LATE

Munjens were looking to extend their winning form from last game's 13-2 thrashing of their oppositions at Ammo-kyo Community Stadia. A late push by Munjens in the second half proved futile. Also, with key midfielder Nallu still serving his match ban, one can only hope Munjens will not rueing his loss.

It was bad news for Munjens as they arrived at the Ammo-kyo Stadia greeted again by showers which postponed their match earlier this month. It was however a promising return to the arena this time facing UniGrad FC.

The game started off to a rousing start as both sides wasted no time in trying to get the ball on each other's third half of the pitch with UGFC seemingly to be giving Munjens the early scare.

Munjens however found their feet and slowly took possession of the game albeit poor communication. Munjens found it hard to play on the wet pitch as they lost control of the ball repeatedly to UGFC.

The ball was relatively stuck in midfield for most of the game and with Munjens keeping their back four tight, caused many problems for UGFC as they were ruled offside time and again.

The lack of shots on goals in the first half sums up what was probably the tightest game ever with a win coming either from a magical touch or even a defensive blunder.

Half time, 0-0.

Munjens changed their game plan reverting from a 4-4-2 system to a 4-5-1 formation with Haris the sole forward and Sanjay to support him.

It wasn't long before UGFC punished Munjens for a defensive lap on the left with a superb out sole swinger from 25 yards down low to the left of goalkeeper Wee Yang who was at full stretch. UGFC deservedly took the lead.

It was only then that Munjens stepped up a gear and played some nice flowing football with at times intricate passes that only made their work harder.

It wasn't until the 60th minute that Munjens had their first real chance on goal. A nice one two play between Sanjay and Firdaus saw Sanjay on target with a nice lobbing effort on goal, only for the keeper to parry it away for a corner.

As Munjens pushed their way through for an equaliser the game seemed to stall itself yet again in midfield.

However, Munjens should thank their goalie Wee Yang for had it not been for some splendid point blank saves, Munjens would have had their own taste of the medicine they gave out last week.

Munjens only really found their footing in the last 10 minutes when on the 86th, a high through ball put through by Jie Wei to Haris saw him superbly control the ball with his head before making his usual dash to the goal. A sliding tackle by UGFC's last defender proved useless as Haris easily skipped past him, and only for his shot to be saved with only the keeper to beat.

The miss proved costly as UGFC hit them on the counter attack and on 88 minutes, managed to win a corner which was duly converted and proved to be the sucker punch for MPFC.

"We played badly in the first half. We couldn't find our footing. It wasn't that good either in the second although we did caused them some problems at the back," quoted MPFC's Darius.

On his miss, Haris was utterly disappointed about it as had it gone in, the game play would have had a huge turnaround. He was however surprised at his match fitness considering he has not played a game for quite a long time.

All in all, it was a pretty much evenly played match which could have gone either way but sadly, a loss that could spell trouble for MPFC as they had only managed a win out of four games this season.

TIME'S UP FOR HAFRIZ

Munjen trialist Hafriz failed a late fitness test yesterday, thus ruling him out for today's crunch match.

The highly-rated midfielder, due for his third game in Munjen's shirt today, suffered a massive blow to his chances after injuring his left knee in a social match with friends exactly a week ago.

Initial scan showed a probable ligament tear, and he had been away from training since then. Seen in training grounds with crutches, Hafriz was only doing light training working on his upper body this past week.

Speaking in an interview recently, defence startlet Peter likened Hafriz to Munjen great Kakeo. And Munjen fans would surely agree.

Hafriz absence would be a great loss to Munjen today, but as for now, he could only watch from the sidelines.

A MISSED PENALTY, A DREAM DEBUT, AND GOALS GALORE AS MUNJENS RETURN TO WINNING WAYS

Two defeat in two games to start of the new year might be too little to spark off an emergency outcry in the Munjen camp, but no one could disagree that another defeat would surely pile up further pressure to the players and management.

Munjens were careful in their build-up to this game, revealing their starting line-up only 12 hours before the game. Team caretaker Fir was made to do last-minute reshuffling however, when star striker Lucien pulled out last minute due to illness. With little choice left, Fir rang Sanjay up, hoping for a miracle answer.

It was surely a much-needed boost when the team found Sanjay reporting for the match in the morning. Little did they know however, that this player would be making his dream debut for the team today.

Munjens pressed on from the start, but shots from Jiewei and Darius could only grace the upright. Sanjay and Hafriz had fierce shots on goal too, but the opponents seemed determined to put on a resilient fight.

The deadlock was finally broken however. Good play down the middle sees the ball played through to Sanjay from Fir, and the debutant made no mistake to open the scoring for Munjens.

It was 13-2, the final score, with goals coming from Hafriz (3), Fir (3), Darius (2), Sanjay (2), Peter (1), Jiewei (1), Terence (1). Munjens probably had trice the number of shots on goal - and would have definitely have made it 14 had it not been for Amin's saved penalty kick.

It was defiitely a game worthy of a replay, as Munjens showed good organisation and link plays. Even the defenders grabbed a few assists to their names.

Back to wining ways, Munjens are definitely looking forward to their next game in 2 weeks' time.

BOARD APPEALING NALLU'S SEND-OFF

The FA has given the board up til midnight today to appeal for Nallu's controversial red card in the last league match that ended 0-4.

Nallu, who was given a straight red card by the match offcial 15 minutes from time for a two footed tackle, came into controversy after television replays showed that there was minimal contact between both players involved.

"We will be appealing to the FA but whatever the decision is, we will respect it. It happened too fast for us to even make a call on the foul, yet again the referee. But I suppose the ref had a better view of it," as said by skipper Wee Yang.

Even Nallu himself was in a daze when shown the red card, "I must have been reckless but i was pretty sure i got the ball. Whether i did or did not get the players legs, I'm not too sure about that. It was raining and the ground was slippery. Anyone could have tripped and fell."

The hearing will take place on Thursday evening and if found guilty, Nallu will be serving a three match ban on all domestic cup competitions.

AMIN SURVIVES SCARE

In a match that got Nallu etched in the history book of Munjen Portuguese as the club's first ever player to be sent off in a match, Amin stole his share of limelight with his heroics.

Down with a rare disease now indentified as piggiosso measles, Amin defied the norm by getting off the sick bed to continue playing for the team in the pouring rain.

He was visibly severly affected with the illness (see artist's impression of Amin during the match after he contacted the disease), but he was not to be overcome by it as he showed much assurance and strength in his game.

Fans who were previously disgruntled at Amin for his history of being a Rafflesian could soon forget that fact, as they now see him as their cult hero. Chants of his name was heard thundering through the terraces as the game went on.

Amin is currently undergoing close supervision for his disease, and is reportedly recovering well.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Amin was a puzzled man. "I don't know how I got infected. I played in mud, with poo and dung, and gone through bushes before, but never have I suffered this kind of itchiness!"

GAFFER IN PRECARIOUS POSITION

Two games and a total of zilch points from a possible six sums the beginning of the '08 season from the Munjens.

Although still considered early in the season, rumours and tabloids nationwide have splashed Munjens disappointing start on their cover sheets.

Skipper Wee Yang who was getting a little annoyed at the media voiced out his feeling and support for the manager.

"The press has been really hard on our manager. If they - the media - should, put some blame on those running on the pitch like headless chickens at times. We too have to take the blame for not putting all our heart and soul.

"Adding on, with the recent spate of manager throwing happening at some clubs,it is not going to happen here. The board and players have full backing for the manager.

"Give the gaffer some time and in this type of season, we need the supporter's backing throughout. It's gonna be the only way for us and the manager to get through these difficult times."

Team manager Jac only had this to say, "The board has not had a word with me about my future. So as it is for now, I still have their backing."

With so much promise for this season, it is no wonder the Munjens are finding it hard to accept their recent spell of bad runs.

SORRY MUNJENS CRUSHED AGAIN

It was a story of opportunities and the absence of lady luck. Munjens had a good feeling and tempo to the game but was yet again crushed 0-4 due to unforeseen lapses.

"We had a good run up in the second half and at one point of time we could have took the game to our feet. But i suppose lady luck wasn't on our side today. The touches were simply, 'not there'.

"I don't know how else to explain where we went wrong but i suppose we didn't focus much on defending today. We had an organised midfield and capable strikers upfront but somehow we lack the attacking and finishing mentality.

"Our lapses in defending cost us dearly too. I must say, I'm impressed with them. It's how you should play football. Take your chances well and not waste like how we did."

In the words of Munjen winger Firdaus, above, it was pretty clear that alack of concentration at the back although coupled with short burst of magic cost them the whole game.

To add to their woes, midfielder Nallu only managed to hit the bar after some slick moves, only to head for the showers early with a reckless challenge 15 minutes from time. Now with Nallu sitting in the dugout for the next three games, the gaffer will be left with little choice to spice up the midfield.

The only positive that can be drawn from this game, the Munjens may have found what it takes to take on bigger opponents.

MUNJENS SHOW SPIRIT

Starting the match without household names like twin strikeforce Adrian and Lucien, midfield general Darius, hitman Haris and defensive rock Azhar, Munjen seemed to be facing an uphill task against a side much hyped about. But through the 90 minutes, the Munjens showed much steel enough to have taken at least a point from the game.

Team manager Jac surely have alot of positives to take from the game. Fielding a makeshift side with largely defensive players, the Munjens started off with a defensive formation.

Munjens showed excellent organisation from the start, and the players were disciplined in keeping shape soaking up the pressure and releasing the ball upfront for a quick counter attack.

Jiewei showed why Munjens have been missing him badly with his energetic runs and telephatic play with lone striker Firdaus. It was his defence-splitting pass that released Firdaus through on goal, but his attempted shot was well blocked by the opponent.

The resultant corner saw a quickly-taken one to Nallu, whose one-two with Firdaus saw him running into the box only but his final ball failed to reach the others in the box.

Back at the other end, skipped Wee Yang was strongly commanding the backline, with Izzat and Wen Xiong commanding every patch of grass with timely takcles and cool displays.

The opponents had a good chance on goal, but this time, Siu Sing was on hand to calmly bring the ball away from the goal line.

It wasn't about to remain a stalemate though. The opponent broke the deadlock from a free kick just outside the penalty box. Wee Yang had seemingly gathered the ball at the bottom left corner of the goal, but the ball somehow spilled from his hands. A couple of pass and simple tap-in later, and it was one goal down to the Munjens.

Good play down the left flank by the speedy Terence released Firdaus, whose cut-in beat one defender, but his resultant cross was well blocked. Firdaus himself took the corner, and his curling cross was met with a glorious glancing header by Nallu but it struck the woodwork. That was perhaps Munjens best chance in the half.

The injection of Hafriz brought much creativity and he didn't take long to create havoc in the opposition. Silky footwork saw him going past 3 before releasing the ball to Firdaus, who saw Jiewei making a good run towards goal - but his final ball let him down.

Peter was a thorn in the opposition's side, winning balls cleverly and he clearly kept the game to a one-goal difference at half-time.

Munjen started the second half strongly, turning attack after attack into goal-scoring chances. Hafriz's silky footwork remained a headache to the opposition and a succession of one-twos between Jiewei and Firdaus nearly gave Munjen the much needed equaliser.

A corner to the back post saw a goal mouth scramble. The opposition failed to clear, and the ball went to Hafriz who was lurking outside the box. His thunderbolt went inches wide off the upright.

A rare attack at the other end then saw the opponents getting their second for the day.

By this time, the drizzling rain has turned into a downpour, and cries of lighting from Nallu (obviously freaked out being the tallest around) convinced the referee to stop the game.

Both teams were eager to continue the match, and 20 minutes later, the referee decided to get the match underway. There was one problem though - the Munjens are down to 9 men, with Izman and Aaron already gone and Amin stranded helplessly in the sick bay. At this time, reporters were told that Amin was down with a rare disease.

Munjen did turn up to the field, but when they finally did so, it was onlt 10 of them. A section of the crowd burst into cheers suddenly, and soon the whole stadium erupted with a standing ovation. Amin had emerged from the tunnel with his jersey and cleats on, despite his clearly distorted face. It was surely a moment to remember.

Munjens pushed on for an equaliser. Two shots in quick succession by Nallu still failed to beat their keeper. Frustration grew, and in a moment of madness, Nallu saw a red card flashed upon him for an ill-timed tackle.

Munjens had to step down a gear from then on, but the back four showed much courage and determination. Jiewei and Terence were busy helping with the defence too, but that did not stop them from adding a third.

A weak shot towards goal showed no threat, but a clearance by Peter at the goal line hit the bouncy tummy of an onrushing opponent and bounced into goal. That perhaps summed up the poor luck Munjens had.

Another goal came soon after - this time a lob over skipper Wee Yang.

With nothing to lose, Munjens sent Izzat upfront, and he showed everyone why he had started his playing career as a striker. Beating 4 opponent players and leaving them stranded a la Joe Cold, he was nearly through on goal, only to be denied by a timely tackle.

Izzat's silky runs brought Hanis to her feet, as captured by the cameras. Hanis, the club's sole season ticket holder, is reportedly having a special relationship with Izzat.

At the other end, the referee awarded a penalty for a tackle by Peter. Replays showed that he had clearly taken the ball way before the man - and justice was well-served when the resulting panalty kick was aimed for the skies.

It remained 0-4 till the final whistle - but it was surely a scoreline that failed to reflect the end-to-end battling display.

At the post-match conference, a visibly disappointed Wee Yang had little to say but insisted he was proud of the lads, especially the defence. "Special mention goes to Amin, whose heroics would go down into the history books of of our club".

SANJAY EXPRESSES REGRET

In a rare revelation yesterday, Sanjay (above right, seen joking in training with fellow player Fir during their youth ranks in the Munjen team) has admitted that his pair of boots were stolen during the match last Saturday, together with his Adidas black socks, Adidas white socks, Adidas shin pads and Adidas shoebag.

Much speculations has been made prior to his revelation, as close friends of the 20-year-old had expressed concern over his recent apparent depression.

Sanjay, who came short of making his expected debut for the team due to the last-minute cancellation of the match, claimed that he had left his pair of Adidas Predators behind in the dressing room. He realised they were missing only after he got back to the team's hotel room. By the time the team sent its officials down to the location the next day, the boots were no longer to be seen.

Stadium officials claimed that they had seen the pair of boots. News leaked out fast, lucky fans who had learnt of those boots left behind might have had their hands on them.

A check on eBay by us found 3 unique pairs of Adidas Predators auctioned online claimed to be those of Sanjay's. The authenticity however, can only be verified by Sanjay himself.

Calling those boots his 'beloved', Sanjay pleads to fans or anyone out there with any information on his boots to help him in his search for his boots. The distraught player also added that he had informed the manager to be excluded from the team till further notice.

There are speculations that Sanjay may make a move abroad to avoid such cases of theft in his native country. Portugese Club, Munjen Singapore F.C., is said to be interested in signing this untested player. The question is, will he quit MPFC?

MATCH CALL-OFF SPARK OUTCRY

It was supposed to be a match that would kick start the new year rolling with a bang, ironically, it did ended up for the wrong reason.

Today's scheduled match between MPFC and SomeACJC FC were supposed to have kicked-off at 3pm (+0800GMT).

Both team buses arrived early for the match and as they were getting ready in the dressing room, mother nature got in their way.

A couple of short spells of heavy torrential rains poured onto the pitch as players watched helplessly about the outcome of it all.

SomeACJC FC were first to test the pitch for its playability and they were fine with it.

The team's worst nightmare came true as MPFC were almost getting ready to gear up for a soaky afternoon.

Stadium officials at the 7 year old AMK Stadium decided to cancel play due to unplayable pitch conditions. Stadium officials cited that the pitch which was only merely water-logged was "unfit" to be played in despite the green light of persuasion by match officials.

The decision as to whether play should go on held up for almost another hour before both teams decided to postpone the match and head off for the team bus.

This was, however, not without controversial comments made by Munjen winger Fir and his team mates.

HARIS' FITNESS STILL UNCERTAIN

With only hours to go, team physio and doctor are still unsure if Haris will start in the first XI today.

Recent x-rays shows that Haris may be suffering from spontaneous pneumothorax whereby the lungs would collapse suddenly. However, latest scans showed that the hole has covered back up and that Haris is feeling better.

Team manager Jac said that although Haris' fitness has been in question, he would still be able to provide the vital touch for the important goals. Besides that, the lack of players available - since many are still on the treatment table - would mean that Haris might feature tonight as a substitute the least, despite his condition.

"If I feel great, I will tell the gaffer that I will play. If not, I'd just sit out on the bench and maybe come out in the remaining 10 to 20 minutes to get some match fitness.

"But my concern now is not to jeopardize the team with my performances that i may give in this condition. I want to recuperate fully before i make the full 90 minutes again."

ICE SHEETS FORCES CALL OFF

Heavy snow that has been falling for the last 28 hours has forced match officials to call off today's game at the Tampinia Stadium.

The match involving Munjen Portugal FC and Ref Selection XI was cancelled just an hour and a half before kick off.

Fans who have arrived early for today's much anticipated match left the arena disgruntled.

A fan of MPFC who only wanted to be known as Hana, was quoted as saying that "the match offcials should have made their decision much earlier.

"Their late call has disrupted many a fan's day plans for today and the short notice given to us goes to show just how professional they are."

Her comments have come in the light of recent events where wrong calls by match officials during matches especially those involving MPFC, have cost them dear points which could have seen them taking in second spot over the last weekend.

The match official's spokesman, Von Hitchcock told correspondents that the snow which fell only started to fall heavier hours before and thus it was also impossible for them to get the pitch checked for accurate measures for the playability of the match.

As we met up with MPFC's striker, Haris, he was clearly enraged by the referee's decision.

"His call was diabolical. Imagine this, I saw our youth team training just 2 hours earlier on that very same pitch and everything was okay. Yes the snow might have been a little hard on us but from my experience, this pitch is a-okay!

"We've all trained hard for this cup match and it is really dissapointing not to be able to see if our hard work would pay off."

Elsewhere in the league, Newcastle came back from a goal behind to snatch a late winner against Birmingham since their last win on October 22nd.

Manchester United strolled past Derby with a rout of 5-1 with goals coming from Giggs, Tevez and Ronaldo.

GLOBAL PROTESTS

After recent protests from local fans and global environmentalists, the club has removed all elements of greenery and nature from it's official website. Officials from around the world have reiterated the need to conserve the environment and explicitly pin-pointed at the club's previous website.

As soon as the Executive Board of MPFC were aware of this, they contacted their Brazilian Brand Director. Measures were then taken by Mr.Sanjay De Silva, and his commitee as they embarked on a 23-hour revamp of the club's website. This was possible through the direct use of high technology straight from Brazil to Singapore.

Through the revamp, the club has adopted a simple yet informative website. It has removed all elements of the past and expects the club to always look forward. As such, results and scorers are only secondary to the club's prepartion for each fixture, and have therefore been removed. As the club is ultimately ONE big team, names of players have been removed so as to promote not just unity, but unlimited access and entry to our big MPFC family.

Therefore, upon the successful approval of the UN and ASEAN, this new website is officially opened by our Guest of Honour, Mr.Koh Chee Kiang. He also urged players to take good care of the fields in Singapore and cherish them. With his wide array of knowledge, he expects soccer fields to turn grey within 2-3 years if necessary precautions are not taken.

MUNJENS LACK BITE

The surprise re-encounter with MJCJ brought again yet another draw this time with both teams canceling each other out at 3-3.

The match kicked off to an almost empty stadium at The Meridian after much boycott by fans concerning the FAs release of its ridicule idea earlier this week. Though small in numbers, they have indeed made themselves heard in the stands today.

The game started smoothly as bothsides enjoyed a good friendly early exchange of passes and shots.

The relatively smooth sailing game went up a notch when Munjen grabbed the opportunity to break the deadlock after finding themselves on the back foot for most of the opening minutes.

A nice midfield battle by Adrian and Lucien found the ball being served to Izzat's feet, who, under unusual circumstance, started up front with Haris. Without hesitation, Izzat released an almost impossible through ball to the oncoming Firdaus who had cut in from right midfield.

Firdaus was left with the easy task of slotting the ball home past the Singapore keeper for the Munjens to take the lead at 1-0.

However, their celebrations were shortlived as MJCJ put further pressure on Munjen's defence.

On the 31st minute, a miscommunication in the Munjen's left back caused the MJCJ player to break free and scored a goal that was as good as miracle as it somehow crept it at the far post after hitting it from a very tight angle.

Munjen were again delivered another blow when a ball that was out of play by MJCJ, failed to be spotted by match officials which controversially led to MJCJ's second goal. Protests by Munjen's players and on the bench did not help either.

The half-time score, 1-2 to MJCJ.

Second half got off to a more promising start as both sides had warmed up enough during the game. Munjen manager Jac made a couple of changes to the team by pulling off Hithaya, Amin, Lucien and Siu Sing in place of Wen Xiong, Darius, Hakim and Izman.

It wasn't long before Munjens regained their footing. A reckless foul on Lucien found Darius in a precarious position for a free kick. MJCJ lined up a seven men wall which wasput under a lot of pressure to keep in line with the presence of Haris as a distraction. A superb Ronaldo-inspired free kick saw the ball straight into the top left corner of the goal, deceiving the Singapore goalie that the ball would go out. A definite contender for Goal of the Season.

In the 74th minute, Munjens raised the bar higher when a defensive lapse by MJCJ allowed Haris to intercept the ball at midfield and cooly sidefoot his shot into goal past the advancing goalkeeper who only managed to watch the ball just creep in the upright.

With the advantage now to the home side, MJCJ shifted gear and made some tactical changes.

With the number of chances MJCJ had in front of goal, it was a wonder how they did not manage to get the ball at the back of the net. Had it not been for the heroics of Azhar and Wee Yang, Munjens would have definitely been crushed to shame on home soil.

Wee Yang, later awarded the Man of the Match award, had a fine day pulling off many spectacular dives which kept the score low and the hopes of Munjens pulling off a win.

It could and should have been 4 goals for Munjen when a through ball by re-substitued Adrian saw Haris one on one with the goalkeeper after beating the offside trap only to see his toe poke shot go helplessly wide off target.

Munjens were then dealt a final blow when miscommunication by Amin and Azhar saw a goalmouth scramble easily slotted home for MJCJ to draw level.

The last five minutes was a nervous one for Munjens as they had to defend for their lives as the attacks from MJCJ came pouring in from corner after corner.

The match eventually ended in a draw after a pulsating 90 minutes.

Post match interview with Munjen team manager, Jac revealed that she was uptight and in distressed over MJCJ's second goal.

"The referee really played us out there. Even i could see the ball was over the line. Not 3/4 of it but the whole ball! It cost us the 3 points we could have had."

Team skipper, Wee Yang, had something else to say about the result, "I think we were lackluster in our performance today. We showed no spirit, off form, and literally all over the place. We could have played much better and pulled off the win.

"The left wing, Terrance, didnt have much job to do, neither did the right as the ball was mainly played down the middle to targetman, Haris. We should try to open up play."

FA TRIES OUT MYSTERY FIXTURES

The FA today has released at press time its ridicule idea of having mystery match fixtures whereby teams would not know their opponents until one day before match day itself. The announcement at the Glory Hall Conference Room came as a shocker to many.

The brainchild of this idea was that of a Member of the Executives of the FA which only wanted to be known as Steve Mc. The stunning resemblance of his name to that of the recently ousted England manager Steve Mclaren raised a couple of eyebrows. The FA spokesman who released the shocking statement reassured the media that the man behind this has nothing to do with the sacked manager.

The reason cited for this change was that it would be a good idea of introducing the element of surprise into the modern game.

"Not only will it have the element of surprise, it will make one team prepare harder for their next opponents as they would not know if it will be a strong or a weak team that they'll be facing. This will therefore keep all club players match fit and prepared when called upon," quoted the FA spokesperson, Ian Karrulmore.

This move has been widely criticised by supporting fans as they would not be able to plan their weekend schedules in time for all the club's matches and most are planning to boycott the FA by having zero attendance for the coming matches.

The next reason for the implementation of this idea was that by having its players ready at full fitness and match preparation each week, it will improve the playing standards of their leagues and eventually having a great talent pool for the new England manager to tap on. With that, it would then have an England squad that is rich of talent to repeat the feat of the 1966 Jules Rimet World Cup.

Syabab Lions' left-back, Sheikh was enraged by FA's move as it had not consulted its members and opinions of those on the ground before proceeding with their decision, "Yes i see the big picture of having a magnificent, almost faultless England squad with this but this idea is just pure nonsense as this would ultimately lose the fan's support and eventually, the whole idea of soccer."

MPFC's manager Jac declined to give any comments by press time but is understood to be in a daze about the FA's idea.

MPFC will be due for a match this weekend, 1st December 2007, Saturday, at the Mango Stadia in West Tampines County. Kick-off at 1500 hours.

"It will certainly be interesting to see what the reaction is by all parties come this weekend towards the FA's immaturity," commented MPFC striker, Alan Harris.

Team Munjen Portugal has decided to set up a writing club branch in view of the immense writing talent that can be found in our team members Haris, Firdaus aka Sharil Ishak and Christopher. Already, they have been contributing to the Munjen Portugal Weekly (MPW) on a very regular basis in their respective columns and the club has decided to set up the branch MPWC (Munjen Portugal Writing Club) to take control of the magazine from SPH.

Haris is to be appointed as the chief editor of MPW with Christopher and Firdaus being Assistant editors respectively. Haris will also be the CEO for MPWC. The club will be looking for journalists. Interested applicants can send their resumes to munjenportugal@gmail.com. We regret to inform that only short listed candidates will be notified.

In the meantime, the magazine will continue to be published regularly and can be purchased at any major newsstands.

The Heat Is On(edit)

It might only be the dawn of a whole new season, but the fixture schedules are already causing confusion amongst the teams. The brave heroes of MPFC were due to battle against a CJ team on Saturday. However, the eagerly anticipated match that attracted a full house at Stadia Meridian was not to be. The Football Association released a statement on their official website after countless queries by journalists worldwide who had flown in specially for the big game.

"The FA, which has been under severe stress since the Croatia loss and the McClaren sacking would like to issue this apology to both the fans and the media for the no show by team CJ. An error in the team schedules that were sent out earlier this week was the cause of all this chaos. We hope that such incidences are a thing of the past and would be happy to refund any disgruntled ticket holder should he wish so. We hope that you'll continue to support the best league in the world and wish for an exciting season ahead", Suay Goreng Erectson, CEO of the FA.

MPFC staged an epic battle against traditional rival KFC in place of team CJ. The atmosphere was volcanic. Literally. The players were hopping around the field during their team talks and this was definitely not a new warm-up technique. The new astro pitch at Stadia Meridian was not being kind to the players in such conditions. Players were feeling their toes blaze as they began the match. It was soon evident that the match play was hampered by the discomforts of the players on both sides. Referee Salleh, a class 2 himself made a radical decision to call for a feet cooling down session. MPFC online understands that this is a first in football history and is proud to have witnessed such an important moment. The players took the opportunity to wet their socks and boots before returning back to action.

The game kicked off again, this time with faster pace. Players decided on short passes as they were in desperate need of conserving their fuels to last the 90 minutes. The game was even with most of the action taking place in the centre of the field. KFC had their chances but were either denied or they failed to make the best out of them. MPFC on the other hand were crippled in the 3rd quarter of the field. In the absence of star right winger Firdaus, the team lacked the sharpness and speed that has been the focal point MPFC's attacks. Step in right midfielder Chris Raj who was making a return following his horrific injury was more of a passing player and this was not enough to break down KFC's astute defence.

Then came the magical moment, a counter attack by MPFC saw a beautiful through ball from central midfielder Aaron find striker Darius. In a move reminiscent of Fernando Torres' goal against Chelsea when he skipped past Tal Ben Haim, Darius skilfully drew out the defender before skipping past him. He kept his composure and coolly slotted the ball past the hapless keeper who we suspect was himself mesmerized by the move. 1-0 to MPFC and the home fans were screaming their lungs out.

However, the home fans had their joy short lived. A fluid move by KFC saw them running down the flanks and incredibly snatched the equaliser from a very tight angle. The silence from the home crowd was a sign of how no one expected a goal from such a spot. Yet the bitter truth was there to be swallowed. It was a blow to the MPFC morale as the sun was stealing precious pints of energy. The players had little time to recover from this goal as KFC capitalised on the disarray within the MPFC ranks and got their 2nd goal, barely 5 minutes from half-time.

The half-time whistle was a relief to every player on the field as they seek shelter from the blazing heat. The boys from MPFC knew that they had to get their tactics right. A shuffle dictated by Captain Wee Yang and input from the entire team helped shaped the plan for the second half. Senior players such as Azhar and Darius tried to motivate the young ones and provided tactical advice to the players in a bid to at least rescue a point from the game.

The work at half-time paid off handsomely. A half-volley that started from the MPFC penalty box by the Captain himself found its way to Darius who made no mistake in adding a second. The game was all square once more and both teams were desperate for the kill. It was clear that in the given conditions, a 3rd goal would have definitely sealed the match. However, try as they might, Mother Nature played her hand. The relentless sun soon resulted in tired players making unforced errors and concentration lapses. The 3rd goal eluded both teams, and this thrilling 4 goal encounter ended up all square.

"It was a game played under extreme circumstances and both teams deserve credit for keeping their cool. A game that was contested by both sides gentlemanly and I think the score line is a fair reflection. The boys returning from their educational exploits are clearly not match fit and the heat wasn't helping us one bit. Yet as a team, we managed to grind out this result and clearly show that we are one to be reckoned with. We're working with the Manager towards consistent improvements in our performances and would like to take this opportunity to thank the fans who were there for all the 90 minutes. We would not have made it without you guys being there for us", commented MPFC player Chris Raj.

With the Thanksgiving Transfer window still open, MPFC fans would be dismayed to hear that their star of this match, Darius Jiang has been talent spotted by bigger clubs. Juande Ramos has admitted that he'll be pleased to add striker of this calibre to replace Berbatov in a revamped Tottenham side, while some reports state that Real Madrid are set to steal the player by offering him a mammoth pay and a huge sign on fee. MPFC online has not been able to get the player's comments on these recent developments but team players have expressed confidence that Darius will reject these lucrative overtures and sign a contract extension with MPFC.

Indeed a brave battle that was more than many of the fans could have asked for. With MPFC still unbeaten, this season could be the one where the finally land the coveted holy grail of football, the Maybank Premier League. (MPL)

The Long Road to Recovery

Team doctors have confirmed rumours that MPFC's utility midfielder Chris Raj is beginning to start light training again following his horrific injury while riding his bike. Team Physio Dr. Thap Sum Bong released a press statement last night amidst all the rumours that the team was trying to prevent the player from joining National Team duty.

"The player in question has just returned from injury following intensive treatment over the last few months on his right shin bone. The team manager stressed that he did not want a half-fit player who would suffer a recurrance once the gruelling season starts taking its toll. With most of his training still done under the supervision of our team of physios, we're confident that he could be back on the field in a week's time. His fitness may not be up to standard, but that would be expected from a player who has been out for almost 3 months now"

Chris Raj would be known to many of the MPFC faithful as our very version of Harry Kewell. We're talking about the injury proneness and not skills though. Since his signing from his successful 4 year stint at VSNP club de football where he scored numerous goals and was part of the winning teams at both the Macpherson NPCC Cup and the VSNP intra-unit soccer competition, he has been criticized for not being the player he once was. This may be attributed to his shine stress fracture which he picked up prior to his signing. Despite all of these, MPFC fans still hold believe that one day he'll deliver a performance worthy of his utmost potential.

"We've seen many footages of him, linking up with former VSNP cf players who are now MPFC players, and they have a very good understanding between them. The goals that have come of a result between the teamwork of A.Bain, T.Teo and K.Kwek and even some of the senior players- along with C.Raj has been excellent. We're hoping for the same partnership to blossom once more in MPFC colours. We're prepared to give him time to fit into the new system and to gel with his team mates, but there's always a limit to our patience" commented MPFC VIP season ticket holder and Fan Club Chairman Mama Mat Mungen.

Despite the hefty fine Chris Raj has been slapped with from the MPFC Board of Directors for drink-riding, there has been no sign that they have decided to let the player go, with the Chairman firmly insisting that he has 4 years left on his contract to honour. In an exclusive interview with the player himself, Chris Raj has expressed his frustration at the situation.

"It wasn't a very good start. My medical prior to my signing already informed the club about my shin's condition. Yet the top brass expressed their trust and signed me. I was eager to pay back right from my debut, but the injury worsened and one thing led to another. I apologise for the bad example I've set to the young fans out there. I hope in the games to come, you'll provide me your fullest support as I try to regain my best" commented the player in an e-mail interview.

Senior player Firdaus, who was also Chris Raj's teammate at VSNP cf echoed his views which he believes is shared by the entire team, "The season's about to resume and the boys haven't heard much progress on chris' injury. the gaffer did mention though that he is well recovering, and really we're all praying chrissy can come back on to the pitch and kick some balls soon!"

His wish may have come through earlier than he might have expected with many fans predicting that the manager may give his troubled midfielder a run out in next week's match.

MUNJENS CELEBRATE EID MUBARAK

As the fasting month of Ramadhan comes to a close, Munjens now welcome the month of Syawal, a month of celebration to the Muslims after completing their one month obedience of fasting.

Munjen team manager, Jac, took time off to spend some time planning for the upcoming open house in a week's time where players are able to mingle with selected fans who have been picked in a lucky draw during the club's Shop til u Drop event which was held at the club's fan shop during the month of Ramadhan.

"We want this to be an event not only for our Muslim fans, but also the non-Muslim. We emphasise on community bonding as much as we emphasise on the importance of inter-cultural living environment," said team striker, Haris.

Those who were not picked in the lucky draw may obtain a $5 entry ticket for the open house. All proceedings will be given to selected beneficiaries.

When Munjen's monthly magazine, MPM probed Haris about the club's next match, Haris was quick to reply.

"It's been some time since we last played and all the players are eager to start kicking the ball on that green thing out there and getting it at the back of the opposition's net! But for now, we shall let those taking their A-levels finish off their educational duties before we proceed futher. We wish them the best."

MUNJENS APPLAUD LIFELONG LEARNING

It is that time of the season again when the fixtures are temporarily abandoned in view of two important occasions, the fasting month of Ramadhan and also the examinations.

With a few of the Munjen players away on personal achievement duty, the Board will not be leaving them to fend for themselves.

"We will try all we can to coup our resources and help them out in these trying times so that they can achieve their personal best. I wish them all the best in their endeavours," quoted club chairman Cinth.

Club skipper Wee Yang also commented on the importance of lifelong learning.

"I think that to be able to learn or study is the greatest privelege one can attain. So we must continue learning and constantly upgrade ourselves even when we are busy with our football duties. You never know when your time will run out and may need to hang your boots early and start looking for another job."

Well said so let's give these learning warriors of ours the best support they need and may they be successful in their journey.

HAPPY RAMADHAN

As the Munjens prepare to go into a month long break, they will however not be too lost on sight.

As the fasting month of Ramadhan approaches, training will be temporarily stopped in respect for Munjen's Muslim players.

They will however, take on a new role as community ambassadors as they will go on visits to the orphanages and elderly in the hope of raising the community's awareness towards the unfortunate.

"During this month, we will try our very best to give back to the community whom i think we owe a lot to. Although they may not be as wealthy or fortunate as us, we must always remember that they are part of our community," said Munjen's prolific centre-back, Azhar.

MUNJENS DRAW IN THRILLING CLASH

Munjen Portugal couldn't make most out of their chances to seal a much possible victory from Meridian Junior College Juniors (MJCJ). The goalless draw however, was nothing short but entertaining and drama-filled which kept the fans on the edge of their seats.

Kick off started to resounding cheers from the stands of the away team as MPFC kicked off with their brand new black and white kits which were also donned by the travelling fans.

Both sides shared a fare share of posession early in the game with MPFC seeming to be the more threatening side in the early exchanges.

MJCJ soon warmed up to the game and created early chances from the left and right but without support in the middle, causing their hard work to go down the drain.

The possesion in the first half was mainly stuck in the middle with MPFC creating more attack but failing to convert it whereas MJCJ struggling to beat the solid defence commanded by centre-back Azhar.

Makeshift right-back, Izzat, performed below par coupled with low confidence in the first half. His late throw-ins could be seen as a result of stress. However, as the game grew, he too grew with confidence.

The first chance to break the deadlock came to Haris of MPFC. A nice team play down the middle saw a through ball - neatly set up by Lucien - to Haris which saw his shot tipped away by the outstretched goalkeeper.

First half ended in a stalemate with both sides still unable to break the deadlock.

An entertaining second half
The second half started to a much more adrenalised kickoff.

Both sides could be seen challenging every ball and closing down on each and every one of them.

The early break this time came from MJCJ. After persistent attacks were stubbornly cleared by MPFC, a cross from the right saw Azhar stumble a clearance which was followed suit by Siu Sing. A quick minded MJCJ striker cleverly chipped in and toe-poked the ball past the advancing Wee Yang.

The ball seemed destined for the back of the net but for Izzat's reflexed clearance off the line kept the score at 0-0.

Munjen hit on the counter attack three minutes later when a long ball upfield was neatly laid by Lucien in the path of Haris only to see his shot come back off the goalkeeper.

MJCJ could have ended the drought when a long range shot from 25 yards into the top corner was superbly held on by Wee Yang.

Haris again came close to putting MPFC ahead when a poor clearance by the MJCJ defender saw the ball into the path of Haris who only managed to graze the upright for a goal kick.

The run of play by this time was mainly a classic ping-pong fashion which had no end.

In the 83rd minute, MJCJ had a one on one chance at goal but the heroics of Wee again proved to be the life-saver for MPFC to keep the scores locked at 0-0.

A controversial last minute injury time decision by the referee cost MPFC all three points when the ball which has seemed to cross the line was not given a goal by the man in black.

A last minute desperate attack by MPFC saw Hithaya's throw in down the left nicely volleyed in by Haris. Lucien's header met with the volley but was fumbled by the goalkeeper which saw the ball seemingly to float over the line. Quick reflexes from the goalkeeper ensured that he kept the ball in play but Lucien's rebound was again stopped by the solid goalie.

Post match conference with the team captain of MPFC, Wee Yang, he said,"I think we could have wrapped it up in the second half. We had more chances and although i wasn't there at the end, I suppose the ball had crossed the line before being cleared as the fans behind clearly had a better vision of the ball."

Speaking to team Manager Jac, "I'm very dissapointed that the referee failed to see that the ball has crossed the line. It cost us dearly as I think the lads deserve a win for the hard work they've put in today. The fans clearly saw it (the ball crossing the line) but not the ref. Porbably he should get a lasik.

"However, I think the three best players on the pitch today had to come from the defence. Azhar, Izzat and Wee were in splendid form. If not for them, I'd not want to wonder how many goals may have buldged our net."

MUNJENS VOW TO STEP UP GAME

After some recent inconsistent showing, the Munjens have promised to step up the tempo for their fans, especially with the arrival of their new kit.

With only 2 wins and 2 losses in the last four games, Munjens have no where to go but up if they want to stand a chance of being in the Champions League next season.

Having dissapointing themselves on the last match of last season - which they only needed a draw to qualify - they have prepared this season with a couple of summer signings and a change in the management as they try to improve the club's overall health in the long run.

Left winger Terence quoted that "This has to be the strongest Munjen side we've ever lined up. We definitely have the mettle and ability to be all the way up there. We just need to cut down on our frequent lapses and we'll be fine.

"Now that we even have a new kit, we will try our utmost best to start off with a win which I suppose would be a good sign or omen."

The fans travelling to Tampines Sec Stadia today can also expect themselves to win attractive prizes by posing with their imagination individually or as a group together with the club's new jersey.

"The tides have turned and I expect to see an army of black and white Munjens screaming their lungs out for the team out there," said a 10-year-old Munjen supporter.

Munjens Announced Jerseys Arrival

News of the team's jerseys arriving at the club's warehouse late yesterday night sent fans nationwide in a frenzy.

Within an hour after the news first made its way around town, fans and reporters swarmed the club's warehouse in Tampines in an effort to catch the slightest glimpse of the new jerseys, but were soon disappointed after club officials had cordoned off the area.

In a press conference this morning, a team spokesperson announced that although the jerseys had already made its way to the club's warehouse, fans need to wait for the official release of the jerseys.

"The club is looking for a good time where all the players are available (free from their personal commitments) to launch the official release of the jerseys."

MUNJENS RUE KIT DELAY

The much anticipated unveiling of Munjen's new jersey this weekend has been postponed to next week.

Reports from the kit manager stated that the club had done some last minute changes to the design and make of the jersey to ensure that it would last much longer. He hinted that the new jersey would be of a two-toned but non that signified its usual traditional yellow.

He also explained that the main reason behind the delay was that the club had only recently opted for the club logo to be embroided instead of printed.

Fans interviewed gave a general feeling of anxiety and dissapointment that the new kits had been delayed.

The club however reassured the fans that the new jerseys would be made available for purchase at the Club Store by Wednesday morning, in time for next week's game.

MUNJENS RESHUFFLE PACK

With the confirmation of the unavailability of skipper Wee Yang, Munjen's manager, Jac had to make several last minute changes to the starting line-up and tactics.

"Sure, i would have loved to have the usual line-up as it has been going very well for us. But now, we have to make do with whatever resources we have.

"Wee Yang has gone off to settle his personal problems and I suppose it is up to Haris now to keep the goalmouth safe. He's been training for it lately and i suppose he's pretty much well prepared to stand in for Wee.

"I've not yet put a finalisation to the positions of others - especially in attack - as I have little choices who has the capability to be put up front, especially with Lucien and Adrian absent from the camp."

Stand-in skipper, Fir, reassured that the reshuffling of pack will not affect the team's performance, although some new faces are believed to be brought in for their trial debut.

The Insider magazine earlier reported that the Syabab Lions are more than ready to unleash their prowess and continue their fine run. Injuries and absentees do not seem to be a problem in the camp and the manager would be spoilt for choice for his starting XI.

MUNJENS AWAIT BIG CLASH

With less than 48 hours before kick-off, the anticipation in the Munjen camp has been on a high since their last game three weeks back.

The long break due to a change in the season fixtures gave the Munjens the itch to let their feet do the talking when they meet Syabab Lions F.C. on Sunday with kick-off to be scheduled at 0900 hours (local time).

Munjen Weekly, Munjen Portugal's leading weekly magazine, spoke to some of the players and it was apparent that all of them were enthusiastically awaiting to stretch their unbeaten run to go into mid-season in pole position.

Left-winger Terence was reported to be "needing a game badly" to ease off the stress from his academic pursuit. The young starlet who signed for the club early this year has been diligently juggling both academic and soccer well and is said to be a promising student in his course.

Other players testified that this could be their biggest test yet with Syabab having an almost equal stretch of wins and form.

Bookmakers have put this match to end up in a draw.

The anticipated match however, has been overcast by possible missing star players that includes goalkeeper/skipper Wee Yang.

Said team manager Jac, "I can't quite put pen to paper now for the possible line-up. Wee Yang has been in astonishing form and Haris has put his price worth in scoring up the leader board. It's almost impossible for Haris to stand in as goalie this week. Plus a few injuries which doesn't seem to clear up too soon, we could well be into a tough week ahead.

"But on the bright side, I do not see why the lads coould not perform without their big names. They have done it before and I believe they can do it again."

FANS GIVE "NICE GUY" A GOOD SEND OFF

The fans who have gathered as early as 6 in the morning just to get a glimpse of their famous right winger, Fir, at the airport were not let down.

Fir's convoy arrived at the airport at about 1130 hours (local time).

Although, he was quickly ushered to the departure transit area, Fir managed to give his fans the opportunity to click away their cameras before proceeding to the immigration area.

Fir has been the selected few to represent club and country in an exciting encounter in Brunei where his skills and determination will determine the outcome of the week long competition where selected players over the ASIAN continent come together to prove their worth.

The final 18 will make their way to represent Asia in the upcoming Inter-continental Cup Challenge which will take place in November.

The staff and fans of MPFC wishes Fir all the best in his competition.

Munjens Logo Unveiled

Munjen Portugal FC launched its much-anticipated official logo (above) yesterday at its packed clubhouse, which was filled with cheers from eager fans who were seen in the clubhouse even hours before the ceremony started.

This one-toned logo was the brainchild of team stiker Haris, and was brought to digital life by winger Firdaus. It bears the letters 'M', 'P', 'F' and 'C', which needs no introduction to Munjens fans worldwide.

Having tied-up with a kit supplier just recently, fans may well expect this logo embroided on the new jersey. Club captain Wee Yang revealed yesterday that the jersey would be launched within a month's time, amid it being mid-season.

When asked if the logo resembles a familiar trademark of a corporate company, Wee Yang declined to comment.

Within hours, Kit Manager Tat Chuan has revealed that he has found kit supplier in the name of Panyasingha Sports & Trading Co.

The main supplied jersey will be in the form of a specially designed Dri-fit FBT which was technically engineered for high performance during games be it in the hot or cold climate.

"This was the most affordable and durable material that I could find so i quickly sealed a deal with the supplier. All that's left now are the confirmation of team numbers and names."

BOARD ANNOUNCES NEW KITS AND LOGO

The Munjen boardroom today announced its long awaited news the fans have been waiting for.

A new logo and new kits will be put in place for the next project which has been scheduled to be completed by end August.

Club chairman, Sheikh Al-Firdaus, has pumped up more funds for the manager's use in the remaking of Munjen's new image.

Team Manager Jac was pleased with the contribution and feels that this is the next step in the Munjen revolution in becoming a more established side since its inaugural formation in November 2006.

Kit manager Tat Chuan however has revealed that the team has long been on the idea of redesigning their kits but it never really got going due to lack of funds, sponsors and suppliers.

The new logo has been scheduled to be unveiled before the fans next Saturday at the Munjen's Pub before their kickoff.

Team striker Haris however revealed that he was quite sceptical about the new logo as it mirrors similarities with another brand which he declines to disclose.

"We'll see how it goes and how well it is being accepted. We'll be ready should there be any lawsuits filed against us. We have it all in place."

MUNJEN'S CHRIS INVOLVED IN COLLISION

A routine ride to the pub turned out what was to be an near death experience for Munjen's right winger.

Chris' bike was involved in a collision with a cab at the junction of Mohd Sultan in the wee hours of Thursday morning. The news of his collision came just two days before he was penned to be in the starting line up for Saturday's game.

Police and paramedics on scene confirmed the accident but assured that no one was seriously injured.

Chris however was the more unlucky victim when his shin was deeply gashed and doctors at the hospital ruled that he could be out for at least another two months before needing another month of training before he could get back to match fitness.

Team physio however said that the club would do all they can to catalyse Chris' recuperation and hopes that it could be cut by a month.

FANS OUTRAGE OVER MATCH CALL OFF

With just under an hour before kick off, fans were delivered with the most upsetting news that the scheduled match between MPFC and Izzat's Friend's Team FC(IFTFC) was called off.

The match which was supposed to kick off at 1500 hours (+0800 GMT), was called off due to a flooded pitch following a thunderstorm which started as early as 0400 hours local time.

The frustration was clearly seen by travelling supporters who were clearly anticipating a much contested match which promised a high tension finish.

One supporter who wish not to be named said, "I've been waiting all season long for this derby and even took leave just so that i could catch this match. The rivalry between them both especially with both trying to dominate the East side here has been well known and i suppose there's good football. But now, not even anything!"

Corresponding with Munjen's team manager Jac, she admitted that it was such a waste to have to postpone the game.

"Many of the players will not be free in the coming one or two weeks so i was hoping to wrap this game up and at least have a stable position before proceeding the next few games without some of our big names. It would give them much needed rest too."

The Munjens have definitely pulled their socks this season and it has shown much improved results with four wins out of their previous five.

Speaking to central midfielder Nallu, he was agitated and mad that the announcement of the cancellation was only made just under an hour before kick off which he thinks could have been done at least hours earlier.

The game has been postponed by match officials but no confirmed date has been given.

Jac further added that she feels that the team should keep their heads up and focus on the next upcoming match which would test the maturity and chemistry of the Munjens.

BIG BLOW AS SKIPPER, STRIKER UNCERTAIN

As the hours tick by, the team physio is on high alert as to ascertain Haris' medical condition following his hamstring injury sustained during last week's 8-1 romp over RIT.

"Haris is still suffering from a slight hamstring pull. The seriousness of the situation was much worse than expected. I'm not too sure if he'll be fully fit by tomorrow noon," Munjen's physio corresponded.

With in-form striker a probable flop for tomorrow's match, the team manager has managed to attain the services of Adrian who seems eager to get back to his scoring ways.

With the assurance that Haris will not be attending next week's match, Adrian will further push his training to be put in the first 11 since a month back.

The Munjens was dealt with another blow when skipper Wee Yang announced today that he was not able to attend today's match citing personal problems.

Team Manager Jac spoke to the media, "I've talked things out with Yang and I think that it is in our best decision to let him off for a week to settle his problems and also benefit the team in the long run."

Sources however have cited rumours that Wee Yang might be attending training and trials for another club which now puts the Club on a delicate tipping scale.

Jac added that even with the loss of skipper, she believes that the team has the potential to perform well with probable stand-in keepers Haris and Siu Sing on stand-by.

The Fans on the other hand are not quite bothered about the rumours that has been circulating with the general consensus that Wee Yang will never betray MPFC for another club and they were quick to brush off any negative rumours.

One of them even put forward that it could be the job of speculators who are just jealous of the team's recent in-form performances and that they are only playing mind games.

Editor's prediction : A close 2-1 win for Munjens.

MUNJENS CRUSH OLD RIVALS

After a dissapointing defeat last weekend, Munjens seemed destined to bounce back especially against their old rivals, the RI Team (RIT). With new faces this week in the name of Alan upfront and Wei Wen at the heart of defence, the Munjens seemed all but set to relish their new strike force.

The game started at a relatively easy pace for both sides with Munjens creating most of the early chances and possesion.

It was not until the 10th minute that a long goal kick was cleverly met by Haris who body checked his marker - way bigger than him - and cooly slotted the ball past a helpless RI keeper.

It wasn't long before Munjens increased their lead to two goals after a superb link up between Alan and Haris down the middle left the RI defence wide open and easily a finish for Haris.

Munjens never thought it would be an easy day out - which was to be - when Alan confidently put the ball at the back of the net after receiving a nice through ball down the middle for his first goal.

By this time, RIT reshuffled its pack and finally made a breakthrough after a failed clearance saw the RIT forward through on goal and beating goalkeeper Wee Yang at the near post, without first clipping the boots of Hithaya.

Seeing that RIT could just maybe make a comeback, Munjens started the game quickly and a deflected clearance by RIT saw the ball deflect off Alan and travel past the defenders, and also the goalkeeper who was put under pressure by Haris which saw the ball trickle past him. Definitely the longest range goal and fastest goal scored by any Munjen player.

Hungry for more, a link up play between Haris and Hithaya's brother down the right saw it go off for a corner. Darius stepped up to swing it in before a poor headed clearance saw it land on Alan's foot who did an about turn and shot it low down the goalkeeper's left. The keeper however was only able to parry the ball before Haris picked it up to seal his hat-trick.

Munjens could have further nailed RIT's coffin when another corner a few minutes later saw Alan's perfectly timed header hitting the crossbar and out for a goalkick.

Half time score, MPFC 5-1 RIT.

Second half blew off to a much slower start as the Munjens were more interested to slow down the pace rather than maul further. Several substitutions and tactical changes were made by RIT during half-time as they try to reduce the deficit by as much as they can.

With barely 5 minutes into the second half, a through ball down the middle saw Haris racing past the last man like a usual routine before sidefooting the ball into the far post, out of Amin's reach.

By now, RIT has started to grit their teeth and surged forward in search of openings but great defensive play by Wei Wen, Darius, Wen Xiong and Hithaya proved to be an impregnatable fortress for the Munjens.

In the 67th minute, a run down the left flank by Terence saw him dazzle past three defenders before sprinting into the penalty box. As he pulled back to outsmart the defender, he was blatantly tripped and the referee had no choice but point to the penalty spot. Wei Wen was the first to call out and he was rightfully given the chance to step up to the spot. With much composure from the centre back, he calmly slotted the ball down left of the keeper who was sent the wrong way.

Peter was substituted by Alan and now controlling at right back, the RIT again failed to break past Peter.

In the 80th minute, another through ball by Kenneth was picked up by Darius who only managed to hit the posts after a clearing on goal.

The last goal of the game came again from a corner. A superbly swung in corner from the left was superbly met by Alan from teh far post who rushed in unmarked and did a Messi trademark goal using the sole of his boot to complete his hat trick.

Post match conference this time however was met with little words from skipper Wee Yang who only described the game as a pleasant victory over arch rivals and that the goals were dedicated to those who did not manage to come today.

He added, "Overall I think we played well today and team chemistry was at its usual high although new faces were brought in and I can only congratulate the men for putting in their effort out there to please the fans who have travelled from the far east."

The dressing room was, however, concerned over an injury that was picked up by Haris towards the end of the match which saw him moving at a walking pace rather than his blistering run.

The team physio correspnded, "Haris has picked what seems to be a not so minor yet not so major hamstring pull. We'll send him for a scan tomorrow but by the looks of it now, he could be out between three to five days. I'm not sure if he could get back to full fitness for the next match although he positively thinks he can."

SELF DESTRUCTION RUIN MUNJEN'S DAY

The atmosphere in the Munjen's camp before kick off was full of anticipation from their previous game which saw them see off their opponent 10-0. Having seen this week's opponents, the munjens finally felt this could be a game that would test their ability as a team.

Kick off followed with both teams having a comfortable possesion of the ball. However, through the first 15 minutes, shots on goal were pretty much scarce until the 17th minute.

A corner from Darius Team FC (DTFC) saw stand-in goalkeeper, Haris punching the ball away from the goal line before a DTFC player stepped up, turned in around one defender and gave a shot that slipped just under the crossbar for their first goal.

Substitution followed in the 23rd minute when goalkeeper Wee Yang stepped in for Haris before he himself, was substituted in with Taya for was to be a bold tactical change. Izzat by this time moved back to the defence line after failing to impress up front. Taya commanded the centre of the pitch while Haris now took charge up front.

It was only a minute after the substition that Haris got his first chance at goal. A nice through ball by Fir saw Haris clear on goal but his shot was agonizingly wide off the post.

Two minutes later saw a free kick from the middle by Fir after a tackle perfectly met by Haris before he cooly chips over the impending goalkeeper for a nice equaliser.

It was five minutes later that saw a nice play by Wen Xiong and Fir that led to munjen's second but sadly, last goal. Skilful and calm control down the right flank, Xiong put a through ball to Fir on the right side before cutting in and swarming in on goal with his blistering pace which saw the defenders and goalkeeper no chance at all.

The first half continued smoothly with solid defending from Azhar and Izzat and attacks poured unto DTFC goal line with superb understanding play from Taya, Fir and Terence, whose endless runs down the left flank nearly created a few openings for a couple more goals.

Half time score, MPFC 2-1 DTFC.

Second half kicked off at a much slower pace with MPFC visibly buoyed by their good play in the first half. However, a lapse of concentration saw them concede an equaliser fo DFTC in the 50th minute, this time, from a poor clearance from a corner which was easily tapped in by DFTC.

MPFC however almost shocked the visitors with an almost immediate reply when a long ball from defence by Azhar saw Haris racing down the middle channel, clipping it away from the last man, rounding the goalkeeper but failed to convert with his left foot when he was left with an open goal.

As more tactical substitions were made in a haste, MPFC's play became increasingly lost and almost inevitably pressing the self destruction button.

It didn't take long for DTFC to capitalise on MPFC's confusion play and they all wrapped up the game with two quick replies in the 74th and 78th minute when communication in the defence between Azhar and Amin failed to stop DTFC's attacks.

By now, the team morale was clearly low and the spectators grew even more impatient when MPFC's striker failed to capitalise on several one on one occasions with the goalkeeper which saw him ruining a probable 3 more goals to his tally.

Alas, a last ditch attack from MPFC saw DTFC quickly intercepting play and pushed for the last goal which left goalkeeper Wee Yang stranded for them to complete a round up trashing of MPFC by 2-5.
